PLANTA

Auraucorites species

Plant fossils are particularly common from the Carboniferous period when they formed coal. Common plant fossils are leaves, seeds and stems. At the microscopic level, fossil pollen is a valuable tool for identifying climatic change. Modern flowering plants developed during the late Cretaceous period.

The Auraucorites shoot is of Eocene age, and comes from Sheppey, Kent, England.
